Report on field day in Estonian Crop Research Institute on July 8, 2014
Organic field day was carried out at the Estonian Crop Research Institute (ECRI) on July 4th.There were participated mainly organic farmers as well as advisors and researchers. Main aims of the project COBRA was introduced and field trials carried out in the frame of WP1 and WP2 were presented. Barley genotypes are tested at the ECRI with a main focus on a resistance to seed born diseases. Spring and winter wheat genotypes are tested mainly for weed suppression ability and food quality. Grain yield and other agronomic characteristics are evaluated for all crops as well. CCP-s was introduced to the participants as a new course in plant breeding. There was emphasized the need for breeding varieties better adapted for specific demands of organic management. Future prospects of CCPs were discussed.
